Switzerland is one of the most stunning countries in the world, and it’s hard to narrow down where to visit! After spending a total of 6 months studying and working in Switzerland, I was lucky enough to explore most of the country. Although everywhere was incredible, this city stood out to me as the most beautiful city in Switzerland! Even after visiting 40 countries and countless cities, this is one of the most memorable places I have ever been!
If you haven’t guessed yet, the most beautiful city in Switzerland is Zermatt! This town feels like you are stepping inside a snow globe and has an iconic mountain overlooking it. What more could you want?!

What Does Zermatt Have to Offer?
Zermatt is one of the top destinations for snow sports. You can explore gorgeous areas for skiing and snowboarding or opt for snowshoeing or sledging! I spent a day skiing here, and the views were absolutely unreal! Even if you aren’t into snow sports, you can enjoy the picture-perfect town and discover unique experiences such as spending the night in an igloo, checking out the luxurious spas, or ice skating in town.
Is Zermatt Worth Visiting in the Summer?
Although Zermatt is known for its winter paradise, you can still find things to do year-round! In the warmer months, discover stunning hikes, bike trails, golf and tennis, and tons of other fun activities! Zermatt is with visiting any time of year!
If you are a nature lover, you will love everything Zermatt has to offer. I am not a skier, but I loved every second of my visit! I think every person can find something to do here.
Why is Zermatt the Most Beautiful City in Switzerland?
What really makes a place special is the nature, not the city. Zermatt has top-tier mountains and views that you can’t see anywhere else! The iconic Matterhorn mountain is often said to be the real-life version of the Grinch mountain, which gives the town a magical feel!
However, the true magic happens once you reach the top of the ski lift. Once the sun comes out, you can see for miles, and you are above the clouds! It truly feels like you are on top of the world.
What Makes Zermatt Unique?
Besides the views, Zermatt has another fun element to it. There are no cars! There are small golf cart-style taxis that you can ride, but absolutely no cars. This adds an extra level of charm to the gorgeous town. However, beware, this town is HILLY, and there is cobblestone everywhere. Trying to lug a giant backpack to my hostel was almost impossible, so I recommend splurging on a taxi in this town. Especially if you plan on hitting the slopes!
