Kigali is one of the most vibrant cities I’ve ever visited. Rwanda is known for its rolling hills and gorillas, but it has also been expanding its culinary scene over the years. Whether you’re craving comfort food, bold international flavors, or a sip of locally crafted spirits, Kigali’s food scene delivers. Here are five of my favorite spots that deserve a place on your itinerary!

Contents:
Mr. Chips
If you’re in the mood for some American-style fast food, Mr. Chips is the place to go. This is the go-to spot for burgers, chicken strips, fries, and pita wraps! It’s perfect for a casual lunch or a late-night bite. I’ve been here a few times, and kept going back to the falafel pita wrap. With tzatziki, tomatoes, and onions, this is one of the tastiest bites in Kigali, Rwanda!
Meze Fresh
As someone obsessed with Chipotle (seriously, I’ve been to Chipotle in 3 countries), Meze Fresh is right up my alley! As you can imagine, it’s a build-your-own Mexican spot offering burritos, bowls, quesadillas, etc. With fresh ingredients, generous portions, and a rooftop seating area, it’s a great spot in Kigali for a quick, flavorful meal. Don’t miss the spicy sauce!
Kurry Kingdom
If you’re looking for a taste of India in the heart of Kigali, Kurry Kingdom is the place to go! Not only is the food amazing, the atmosphere is also fantastic. With a gorgeous garden and lots of spots for photos, this is an influencer’s dream. As someone who is primarily vegetarian, this spot had tons of options for both main courses and appetizers! My favorite was the vegetable dim sum from the Indo-Chinese Menu. These tasty dumplings come with a variety of sauces, and are delicious both steamed and fried! Next time I’m in Kigali, this will be my first stop.

Switch
Switch is more than a restaurant; it’s an experience. With multiple themed sections, including a lounge and a garage-style photo zone, it’s a trendy hangout for Kigali’s creative crowd. The menu blends American and Lebanese influences, and the chicken barbecue pizza is a fan favorite. Whether you’re there for brunch or late-night bites, Switch delivers both style and substance.
It looks like Switch has the same owner as Kurry Kingdom, which explains why it’s so good. I would eat at any restaurant they open!
1000 Hills Distillery
My last recommendation is a great spot for a cocktail with some stunning views! East Africa’s first craft distillery, 1000 Hills is a must-visit for spirit lovers. Founded in 2014, it produces small-batch whisky, gin, rum, and coffee liqueur using locally sourced botanicals. Even if you’re not into spirits, the hilltop views and tapas menu make it a perfect sunset destination.
Kigali’s food scene is a reflection of its people—warm, creative, and full of surprises. Whether you’re grabbing a burrito at Meze Fresh or sipping gin at 1000 Hills, each spot offers a unique slice of the city’s evolving identity. So come hungry, stay curious, and let Kigali feed your soul.
